Social networking has transformed immensely over the years in such a rapid pace. Starting first as a domain only for adults it soon went on to be populated by college students then to high school students and now even kids in middle and elementary school have joined. Having all these different types of people joining have forced social networks to adapt to different tastes. Sites such as Myspace mainly attract a younger audience with the ability to design one's page to their liking as well as having no restriction on the type of name one wishes. While Facebook is targeted mainly to college students and adults with more restrictions on design and name options. Also the uses for these social sites have altered from just communicating between friends to getting to know a complete stranger who may become one's future spouse.
While this may all be good and all there is also a dark side to this new fad which concerns cyber bullies, stalkers and pedophiles. But I believe these horrible events have been consequence of no parental supervision and/or too much information posted by people. There is more good that comes from these social sites than negative if used correctly. It is a great way of networking and a great example of that success is the Obama campaign which won him right to the presidency. First with the start of a brilliant idea of creating a social network within Obama's website and actually improving its proficiency as more people joined was the downfall of the other candidates. Even other social networks like Second Life which began like any other virtual world website has become something useful. No one would have thought it would help dramatized individuals or mentally challenged individuals in helping to improve their interaction skills. If these improvements have just begun one can only imagine what other positive breakthroughs can be born and I am one who can't wait to see what the future holds.
